In organic chemistry terms the difference between alkyl and allyl
is that alkyl is any of a series of univalent radicals of the general formula CnH2n+1 derived from aliphatic hydrocarbons while allyl is an organic radical, CH2=CH-CH2-, existing especially in oils of garlic and mustard.
