is that formaldehyde is the simplest aldehyde, H-CHO, a colourless gas that has many industrial applications; it dissolves in water to give formalin while acetaldehyde is an organic compound (CH3CHO). Sometimes called ethanal or acetic aldehyde. See aldehyde.
